Perpetual rights

This chapter explores the critical importance of securing archival and perpetual access rights for licensed digital resources. It emphasizes the need for libraries to negotiate clauses that allow the creation of DRM-free archival copies and cooperation with trusted third-party archiving services. These provisions support the library’s mission to ensure long-term preservation and uninterrupted access – mitigating risks associated with technological obsolescence, data loss, and vendor dependency. By establishing clear preservation standards, libraries can protect essential academic content for future generations and fulfill their commitment to preserving knowledge.
